Are silk pillowcases worth it for men?
Silk gets marketed to women. Friction doesn't check who you are.
Scroll through any silk pillowcase ad and you'll see the same thing: women, flowing hair, soft lighting. Fine. But nothing about friction cares who's sleeping on it.
Hair
Long hair, curls and beards all tangle and frizz from rubbing. Short hair gets the dreaded bedhead flat spot on the side you sleep on. Silk helps with all of it.
Skin
Everybody gets sleep creases. And if you shave, a smooth surface is a lot kinder to freshly shaved skin than rough cotton.
Sleep
If you run hot at night, silk breathes and feels cool, which is reason enough for a lot of people.
Good sleep was never a gendered category.
It looks good, too
A deep color like Deep Reef looks sharp on a well-made bed and hides everyday wear. A warm neutral like Sand suits a softer room.
What to look for
A hidden zipper so the pillow stays put, and a heavier silk, around 22 momme, that holds up to regular washing.
The short version
Friction affects everyone. Silk helps with bedhead, beards and skin, and it sleeps cool.
