How to make your bedroom feel calm (and a little bit luxe)
It's mostly about taking things away, then choosing what stays very carefully.
You don't need a renovation to make your bedroom feel like a boutique hotel. Mostly, you need to edit.
Pick a soft palette
Restful rooms tend to live in soft, natural colors: sand, warm white, pale blue, deep ocean blue. Our own colors are named for corners of Barbados: Sand for the beach at low tide, Coral Stone for old island walls in afternoon light, Sea Glass for the west coast shoreline, and Deep Reef for the dark water just past the reef.
Fix the lighting
Warm bulbs, low lamps, no overhead light after dinner. Blackout curtains or a great eye mask for those bright summer mornings.
Layer your textures
Linen sheets, a wool throw, a silk pillowcase. Mixing natural textures is what makes a room feel expensive without feeling cluttered.
Calm rooms aren't full rooms. They're edited ones.
Clear every surface
Your nightstand gets a lamp, a book and a glass of water. Everything else goes in a drawer.
Keep one special thing
A print you love, a plant, a beautiful pillowcase. One piece that feels like you is what turns a tidy room into your room.
The short version
Soft natural colors, warm low light, layered natural textures and clear surfaces make a bedroom feel calm.
