How to make your blowout last (yes, day three is possible)
You paid for it. Here's how to sleep on it without flattening it.
A good blowout is one of life's simple pleasures. A good blowout on day three is one of life's great achievements. The secret is mostly what happens between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.
Before bed
- Wrap it. Brush it smooth, wrap your hair around your head and pin loosely. Or twist it up into a loose, high bun.
- Sleep on silk. Hair slides instead of dragging, so you wake up with fewer dents, kinks and flat spots.
- Keep it cool. Sweat is the enemy of volume. A cooler room and a breathable pillowcase both help.
In the morning
- Shake it out at the roots with your fingers.
- Dry shampoo before you need it. On day two, spray at the roots first thing, not once things are already flat.
- Touch up the front only. A quick pass on your face-framing pieces looks like you redid the whole thing.
Half of a blowout's lifespan is decided while you're asleep.
Day three
A sleek low pony or a soft braid buys you one more day. If you slept on silk, there should be fewer creases to hide.
The short version
Wrap your hair, sleep cool and sleep on silk. A blowout can often stretch into day three.
