How to get heatless curls overnight (that actually look good)
Zero heat, zero effort in the morning. Here's the method that works.
Heatless curls are the beauty internet's gift to people who refuse to wake up early. You put in five minutes at night, sleep, and wake up with bouncy waves. When it works, it's magic. When it doesn't, it's lumpy. Here's how to land on the right side.
What you'll need
- A heatless curling rod, a robe tie or a soft scarf
- Two scrunchies
- A light mousse or setting spray
- Hair that's about 80 percent dry. Soaking wet won't dry overnight, and bone dry won't hold.
The method
- Drape the rod over the top of your head, centered.
- Take a section at the front on one side and wrap it around the rod, adding hair as you go, like a loose French braid.
- Secure the end with a scrunchie. Repeat on the other side.
- Go to sleep on a silk pillowcase so the set stays smooth and the flyaways stay down.
- In the morning, unwrap slowly and separate the curls with your fingers.
The smoother your night, the smoother your waves.
Make them last
Don't brush. Shake out your roots, add a little shine spray, then keep your hands out of it, which is honestly the hardest step.
The short version
Wrap slightly damp hair around a heatless rod, sleep on silk and separate the curls with your fingers in the morning.
