How to upgrade your nighttime routine (without adding more steps)
A better evening isn't about doing more. It's about doing what you already do, slower.
The internet would like you to believe a good night routine requires a gua sha, a journal, three teas and a 47-minute meditation. It doesn't. The best routines are short and repeatable.
Give the day an ending
Pick a time when work is officially over. Close the laptop. If you can, charge your phone outside the bedroom. It's amazing how much an evening opens up when nobody can reach you.
Dim everything
Swap overhead lights for lamps an hour before bed. Warm, low light is the simplest signal you can give your body that the day is wrapping up.
Turn skincare into the off switch
Washing your face can be the moment the day ends. Slow down. Feel the water. Let your products sink in before you get into bed.
Make your bed somewhere you want to be
Fresh sheets, a cool room, a silk pillowcase. It sounds small, but getting into a bed that feels lovely changes the whole mood of the night.
Do one thing with your hands
Read a few pages. Stretch. Write down tomorrow's top three so they stop circling your brain.
In Barbados, evenings slow down on their own. A good routine is just a way to bring that pace home.
The short version
Give the day an ending, dim the lights, take your time with skincare and make your bed somewhere you want to be.
